Castle

While I'm in no danger of returning to my former television superfan days, I think I have a new favorite show....Castle. It's smart and funny and romantic and Tracy even likes it. Plus the main characters are a writer and the coolest girl cop on television. With my luck they're going to cancel it and replace it with yet another horrific reality dating show, but at the moment I'm thouroughly enjoying my Monday night fix.

Leaving Facebook

I've decided I'm closing out my facebook account tommorow. I'd do it tonight, but I wanted to have the status that I was leaving posted for a bit, otherwise it feels like hanging up on people. Yeah, I know I'm wierd.

I really like so many things about it, but there are just too many issues with it. I find that it makes me unhappy as much as it makes me happy. The thing that makes me feel wierd about it is that I've championed facebook with a few people, and I still agree with all of those things that I said. I love finding old friends, I love the easy connection with people I don't see everyday, I love getting updates from organizations I'm interested in, but in the end it's just one more thing to worry about - which I don't need.

Avatar

Tracy and I went and saw Avatar today, we didn't go in 3D but I don't think that would have helped it much. Yes the effects are cool, but this movie (and having seen many reviews online I know I'm not the only one who thinks this) is a Pocahontas/Dances With Wolves rip off with only one sci-fi gimmick to make it even remotely original. Plus there were a lot of largely naked alien folks running around, which I found disturbing. It's not a completely horrible movie, but I'm surprised how popular it is for the fact it hasn't got much in the way of character or plot. It was even a bit boring in the middle section.

Oh well, it was fun to go on a date, and Tracy and I had fun grumbling about it together.

Glad for Good Friends

There's nothing like having lunch two days in a row with good friends to cheer you up. Even though graduate school has it's bumps and lumps, one of the terrific things about it is that I've made some really good friends. Yesterday I went to a local restaurant for the first time, and even ordering something ridiculously healthy it was really good. I'll definitely be heading back to Kneaders again.

My Silly Other Blog

New Recipes and Silly New Blog

Yesterday was one of those weird days, it started out with massive academic trauma that by the end of the day was completely resolved...very weird.

So thanks to some Christmas gifts Tracy and I can now claim to have tried three new recipes. Tracy received half of a smoked salmon for Christmas from Becky and Vashon and I made some chowder out of it, Tracy really liked it (me not so much, apparently my inland Mormon Casserole Tradition taste buds haven't entirely adapted to the world of seafood yet). We've also tried two new recipes from the Barbecue Bible cookbook my Mom and John sent us, Memphis Rub (on a Pork Loin Roast) and Bahamian Grilled Chicken, both were terrific so we were very happy.

As for the silly new blog, Tracy has been using Princess Bride quotes as his facebook status the last couple of days. I told him, "Someone should start a Princess Bride 'Quote of the Day' blog." I searched for one, and apparently it doesn't exist, so I'm going to start one, just to add a little extra silliness to my life. I'll post the address soon.

Good Start to the New Year

Today has been a great day, both fun and productive. I went out to lunch with a friend, hung out with my husband, cleaned the fridge, went grocery shopping, met some of our neighbors for the first time, and made a new recipe for dinner. One my goals as of today is to wade through the pile of clipped recipes I have and either make them or toss them. Tonight's definitely fell into the keeper category. It was a BLT Creamy Mac & Cheese. Definitely not a health food recipe as it contained bacon, cream cheese and shredded italian cheese, but it was seriously good. I hadn't ever cooked anything with leeks before, and it was a successful experiment.

Happy New Year Everybody!
